During the travel montage of the Cohorts return to Valesia from Stengaria; Branwen deciphers the book fragment found in the Hall in Stengaria. It indicates that the Cohort had defeated the The Cult of Nemash the Tormentor in the past and had then delivered their information to the monks at the The Monastery of Mt. MacCaern.
Once back at home base; Brandwin uncovers clues to the Monastery’s location. After a night of feasting, the heroes head north.
On the sparsely civilized northern plain, a large hunting party wearing their traditional brightly-colored hunting pants, is encountered. Leam the Hunter approached the party and, after a short discussion, it’s decided that Leam will take the heroes to see the village wise woman, Serverntoria the Shamanese , of Costaria Village if the Cohort helps the hunters bring down their prey. The object of the hunt, a Plains Goliath, turns out to be a large panicky herbivore, and a local delicacy. Arrich of Devron Valley leads off the attack with a firery blast and the beast is brought down, field dressed and dragged to the village.
The wise woman says that she can help the party on their way but that must prove themselves by in the Trials of the Worthy. The make a good showing, winning all five events.
|Trials of the Worthy|
The trials are followed by a feast and much merriment. The following morning, after a round of hangover-relieving tea, Serverntoria leads the heroes to an obelisk bearing symbols of the Cohort. She presses a symbol, revealing a large crystal that redirects the morning sun into a beam that make the beginning of:
The Mountain Path
A mostly overgrown path winds up the mountain. As the Cohort hacks it way up the path, they encounter Mountain Hell Sheep , jet black bighorn sheep with glowing read eyes that breath fire. After the adults are defeated, Branwen goes looking for their young to train to pull chariot; only witness them being gobbled up by a large dire wolf.
Finally, a plateau is reached upon which is the Monastery.
